Halloween around our office is a pretty fun time. Many of us, myself included, are self-proclaimed drama nerds who anxiously await the arrival of Halloween each year. We get to trade in our typical office personas for alter egos or something completely silly and different. The downside to All Hallows’ Eve is the overindulgence of candy. It is so hard to say no, especially to those darn Reese’s peanut butter cups! As I type, I’m eyeing four “goody” bags lined up on my desk from the secret … [Read more...] about Haunted by Halloween Candy Overload?

There Is No ‘I’ in TEAM
If you think hiring a professional is expensive, wait until you hire an amateur. Whether your estate planning practice is a small, medium or large law firm, there’s one distinctive characteristic that can be found in every successful firm: teamwork. Of course, that teamwork is created with great hiring, training, follow-up direction, motivation and leadership. It’s the law firm owner or department manager’s job to build a group of creative and enthusiastic A-Players that work cohesively as a … [Read more...] about There Is No ‘I’ in TEAM
Using Social Media to Make Your Mark
The “magic” of social media is almost overwhelming! Are you Linked Up with LinkedIn? Is your face or your law firm on Facebook… have you claimed your AVVO profile, are you writing a blog… or are you waiting for the fad to pass? Nobody is going to fly over law firms and sprinkle fairy dust that removes the need to get with the times so if you’re waiting—you’re letting opportunity pass you by. What’s Your Commute?
How do you change a negative into a positive? Do you feel stuck doing something you feel that you cannot change? I did, but I found a way to turn it into one of my favorite parts of my day. Earlier this month we held a Fourth of July parade on our street that had 30+ children with decorated bikes and scooters. This is exactly where I want to raise my young son. The thing is, I’m 30 miles from the Academy … [Read more...] about What’s Your Commute?

Find out what your airline is charging for checked baggage fees so you know what to expect when checking your bags at the ticket counter. Kayak has a great chart comparing all airline fees. It includes fees for checked baggage, meals, and extra legroom seats. I recommend looking at this website before … [Read more...] about 5 Simple Tips for Traveling
Don’t Overlook the Little Details
Over the years I’ve learned that more often than not, event attendees remember how you make them feel. A warm reception, personalized materials and having information available before they need to ask for it (restaurant guides if they will have a break in the area, daily agenda details on display, etc.) will make them feel relaxed and ease their mind. It’s the little things that add up to make a big difference. You don’t have to host seminars or events to do an evaluation of how YOU make … [Read more...] about Don’t Overlook the Little Details
From the Desk of the Event Manager
We’re wrapping up at the office in anticipation of being onsite at the Academy’s Fall Summit next week. Here at the Academy, our bi-annual Summits are an institution of Membership benefits.
