How do you keep doing what you *know* you should be doing long after the fun and excitement of a new project or a new routine starts to wear off? Or how do you stop doing something you know you should *not* be doing? For me, it’s accountability. I love listening to podcasts or reading books on leadership, productivity, and self-growth. I spend my commute, to and from the office, each day consuming content on self-improvement and business success. Even with success and personal growth top … [Read more...] about Accountability – How Do You Set Yourself Up for Success?
It’s the time of year when it is warm outside, you’re wearing flip flops and barbecuing on the weekends. There is an excitement in the air that comes with more hours of sunshine. Why not bring some of that summertime fun and energy into your office? For July and August, we’re having Friday Fundays at the Academy! We picked the theme of focusing on fitness in some way each week. A fun perk is that we can wear our favorite workout gear to the office (as long as we don’t have visitors … [Read more...] about Shaking Things Up – Summer Fun at the Academy
Recently the Academy team dedicated an entire Friday at the Academy office to de-cluttering, cleaning and purging old files and materials. We had a thorough spring cleaning two summers ago and had noticed items in each of our offices and common areas starting to pile up again. Instead of working in the chaos and clutter that surrounded us, we did something about it! You might wonder why we would have our entire San Diego team spend time on this project. There are always multiple projects … [Read more...] about When It’s Time to PURGE!
As business owners, entrepreneurs or fully invested team members, sometimes we’re so hyper-focused on our big goals that we DON’T stop to recognize what we’ve accomplished. How do you think about your goals? Do you think of them as overall successes or failures? Or do you think about the small wins along the way? We’re always moving a mile a minute here at the Academy and we just wrapped our 25th Annual Spring Summit in Las Vegas – big goal accomplished! Every single person at the Academy has … [Read more...] about Celebrate Your Wins

We all know it’s important to acknowledge a job well done and express gratitude. We also know we should exercise consistently and eat a healthy diet. Just because we know we *should* do something, does that mean you *are* doing it? How do you carve out time to focus on the office environment and culture when you have competing tasks and deadlines? Schedule it. Create an environment where praise can be given publicly by everyone on the team, not just you. Take the time to set up a culture of … [Read more...] about Have I Told You Lately?
While September brings cooler autumn air, back-to-school excitement and smell of pumpkin-spice lattes for most people, here at the Academy it signals the beginning of Summit-Mode. All hands are on deck to put the finishing touches on a Fall Summit that will leave our Member Attorneys, their teams, and our special guests energized and ready to make a difference in their community through their law firm. I’ve had the pleasure of organizing Academy events for over 10 years. As an event planner, … [Read more...] about Making A List, Checking It Twice…
We’re enjoying our warm weather, flip flops and summer barbeques here in San Diego, but the winter holidays are already on my brain. Why? It’s time to start the planning process for our annual Holiday Luncheon and White Elephant Gift Exchange. Every year, the Academy hosts a holiday luncheon for our on-site team members. The time and date are strategic. It is always the first Friday in December and instead of a dinner we have a lunch event. We want to show our appreciation for the hard work … [Read more...] about Happy Holidays in July? It’s Time to Start Planning
I’m not a chef or someone who really enjoys cooking. I’m lucky my husband enjoys preparing our meals and does so the majority of the time. That being said, we both work full-time, commute to and from the office, and have a young son. We were looking for ways to streamline our evenings when a coupon arrived in our mailbox for a popular meal delivery service. We had both been commenting for months about how we were making the same meals week after week so we decided, why not try it? We figured at … [Read more...] about Is It Time to Try Something New?
I’ve been a member of the Academy team for almost 10 years. When I stop to think about what has impacted me the most, one of the first things that comes to mind is what I’ve picked up at our Peak Performers Meetings. Let me offer a little background about the program. Our Peak Performers Program is for Academy Members who are looking to accomplish more personally and professionally by entering a coaching program that is run by our Co-Founders, Robert Armstrong and Sanford M. Fisch. The Peak … [Read more...] about Peak Performers Program: What I’ve Learned From Being a Fly on the Wall
There are so many things in life that push and drive me but none seem to motivate me more than guilt. I go to the gym so that I don’t feel guilty, I feel guilty for “wasting” a beautiful day indoors, accepting gifts, and to the extreme of feeling guilty for not being home enough with my cat. I will find a reason to feel guilty, almost search it out. I am not the only one. You will hear coworkers or friends confess apologies or become defensive regularly; both symptoms of guilt. It isn’t always … [Read more...] about Is Guilt Our Guilty Pleasure?
