As we approach the 2021 Fall Summit, the excitement of seeing everyone again is brewing! However, this anticipation does not exclude the question we all have on our mind; what precautions will we take given the ever-changing Covid regulations?
Since the rise of the pandemic in Spring of 2020 we have executed three successful online Summits, but we are anxiously looking forward to meeting in-person once again in San Diego as our Summit theme rings true, In Good Company: Connections for a Lifetime. We are taking every precaution to provide a safe environment for our attendees, speakers, sponsors, and the Academy Team — without compromising the environment conducive to connection.
As of today, September 9, 2021, we plan to hold our Fall Summit in-person. It is each of our responsibilities to create a safe environment for ourselves and others when gathering, especially after travel. The state of California highly recommends receiving full vaccination before traveling or testing 1-3 days before travel. Delay travel plans if you are feeling unwell, and always wear a mask when using public transportation regardless of vaccination status. Visit https://covid19.ca.gov/ for current state orders and updated information.
Onsite, we are following the hotel’s guidance on personal protective equipment including mask wearing. At this time masks are required for non-vaccinated attendees and optional for those who are vaccinated, however this is subject to change following guidance from the local government and venue regulations. The Academy will be providing individually wrapped masks that will be available to attendees each day if they choose to wear a mask while onsite. We will not be checking vaccination cards at this time. For the most up-to-date hotel information on Covid-19 updates and what to expect at the hotel, visit Marriott’s safety information here.
Our Director of Projects and Events, Erin Mathew, and I have both completed a thorough course to become certified in Pandemic Onsite Protocol through the Event Leadership Institute (certified in January 2021). The course empowered us with best practices for keeping everyone safe onsite, while also mitigating risk and maximizing prevention prior to the event. The Event Leadership Institute has been approved by the Events Industry Council (EIC) as a Preferred Provider of continuing education courses.
We are excited to be introducing a brand-new contactless check-in process at our Registration Desk! Name badges will be printed onsite to limit the number of people handling these items leading up to distribution. All attendees will be required to fill out a Covid-19 waiver during their Summit registration agreeing to practice good safety practices including hand hygiene and self-monitoring for Covid-19 symptoms.
We look forward to seeing everyone in October for a safe and educational 28th Annual Fall Summit. If you have any questions, please contact events@aaepa.com
