David Cahoone brings more than 35 years of experience in estate planning, wealth transfer, charitable planning, taxation, and business succession to his role as Director of Education for the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys. Throughout his career, David has combined deep technical knowledge with a genuine passion for teaching, mentoring, and helping professionals achieve meaningful results for their clients.

David believes that exceptional estate planning is about much more than documents and tax strategies. It begins with listening carefully, understanding what matters most to clients, and helping families, business owners, and charitable organizations create plans that reflect their values, goals, and legacy. That same philosophy shapes his approach to education—providing attorneys with practical strategies, thoughtful guidance, and proven systems they can confidently implement in their own practices.

Before joining the Academy, David built a distinguished career advising individuals, families, business owners, and charitable organizations on sophisticated wealth transfer and philanthropic planning. He also served as Director of Philanthropic Strategies and Planned Giving at Brown University, where he worked with donors, advisors, and development professionals on complex charitable gift planning. He is currently a Senior Partner at The Dorcey Law Firm in Florida, where he continues to advise clients on estate, tax, and charitable planning matters.

A nationally recognized speaker, author, and educator, David has presented hundreds of educational programs for attorneys, financial professionals, and charitable organizations throughout the country. His ability to simplify complex planning concepts and translate them into practical solutions has made him a trusted resource for professionals seeking to elevate both their technical skills and client experience.
