FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
San Diego, CA – August 22, 2024 – The American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys is proud to announce that Tereina Stidd, Director of Education for the Academy, had the honor of testifying before the Wyoming Mental Health/Vulnerable Adult Committee of the Wyoming Legislature. Tereina was invited to share her expertise on legislation addressing the use of Dementia Directives in the state of Wyoming.
Dementia Directives are an essential tool for individuals with cognitive impairments, such as dementia, to ensure their healthcare preferences are honored when they are no longer able to communicate their wishes. During her testimony, Tereina highlighted the need for clear and accessible legislation that not only protects the rights and dignity of vulnerable adults but also provides guidance to caregivers and medical professionals navigating these sensitive situations.
Tereina’s testimony underscored the importance of empowering individuals with the ability to make healthcare decisions in advance while ensuring that Wyoming’s legislation aligns with the needs of its aging population. Her contribution aimed to support the committee’s efforts to craft legislation that balances individual autonomy with the practical needs of caregivers and healthcare providers.
Tereina was invited to testify by Academy Member Thomas Lubnau, a prominent attorney in Wyoming and former Speaker of the Wyoming House of Representatives, who also provided testimony during the session. Together, their input offered valuable perspectives to the committee as they considered legislative steps to address this critical issue.
The Academy applauds Tereina’s dedication to advancing the rights and dignity of individuals affected by cognitive impairments and commends her for her role in shaping meaningful policy discussions.
