At the Academy, Kathryn Adams is the Practice Building Coach who heads up a private group of Members in a Marketing, Management and Leadership coaching group we call “Point Peeps.” Every day, each of these Members and their teams submit a scorecard of points correlating to the marketing efforts they completed that day. Members are able to specifically track and look back at their efforts to see what’s working and strategically implement new ideas.
Every day Kathryn compiles the group scorecard (because around here, we like tracking, too!) and sends it out with an inspiring or funny image for the day. Every few days, she sends out a “thought for the day” or a question for the group to answer to keep them engaged and interacting with one another.
Her message this morning hits home! “It’s so important for us to take care of each other, help each other find our unique abilities, and work in those places where we are the most awesome, and create a culture that fosters creativity, innovation, and one heck of a WOW experience for our clients.”
This morning’s discussion between 40+ law firms had to do with morale and keeping things positive. Making people we work with feel GOOD about their contributions or the impact they have by looking for the little things that make a difference. Here at the Academy we have a CAUGHT YA BEING AWESOME (CBA) award that allows anyone in the company to recognize anyone they want, whenever they want. Because we know some of the greatness we’re all surrounded by on a daily basis can be unnoticed, or something fabulous just happens for no reason, usually behind the scenes, we invented a NINJA turtle emoji that represents this award in our posts to the entire company.
When anyone sees the ninja turtle emoji in a post on our company-wide instant message platform, they know someone is getting some love!
We use Slack company-wide. Half of our employees at the Academy are offsite and Slack really makes us “feel” like we’re under one roof. Here are some examples of random CBAs that pop onto Slack in the midst of all the fur that flies around here while we’re packing for conferences or conducting trainings or coaching calls!
Sometimes it’s just a matter of noticing. When things are so busy all the time, who has time to notice that someone is ALWAYS filling up the paper in the copy machine or making the coffee?
The challenge is to notice those things and make somebody’s day. It’s a simple thing that goes a long way.
How are you making your team feel your appreciation for the innumerable things they take care of behind the scenes every day?
