One of the common challenges for most law firms is the up and down nature of business flow. Yesterday was disappointing. Today is wonderful. Life is like that, isn’t it?
What would our personal disposition be like if we really got that, not on an intellectual, conceptual level, but really understood it? Wouldn’t we be clearheaded and calm on those frustrating days, knowing that tomorrow will bring a different result?
Years ago I recognized that there was a natural cycle of business. Certain months were fabulous and other months were slow. I could chart it out year after year, but knowing that made no difference during the slow times. I worried and fretted, made up stories of doom and generally ruined my days. All that worry accomplished nothing.
I could have been working on my business during those days, creating strategies and implementing systems, but my mind was too agitated. So how do you deal with those slower times without panic? It’s simple…you trust the process.
If you are doing all of the recommended things day after day, they will produce results. If your marketing steps are in place, your delivery methods are tight and you’re developing deeper client relationships, everything will blossom. Remember the space in which an object lies is just as important as the object.
Trust the process…and during slow days, exhale and work on the business, take a team member out to lunch, go home and be with your family. All in the knowledge that a new day is around the corner.
