Facebook May Not Be As Social As You Think

Facebook recently revealed that the average story from a user profile only reaches 12 percent of their friends. In truth, your actively shared links, photos, and status updates probably reach a much higher percentage, but auto-generated posts about new friendships, wall posts, and articles you’ve read reach less. By reducing the reach of low relevance posts, Facebook theorizes that there’s more feed space for more compelling content.
So, how can you be sure you’re seeing everything you want to see? Check your settings! Facebook’s default news feed setting is automatically set to show ONLY posts from people with whom you’ve recently interacted or interact with the most, aka your Top Stories, but you can change that. At the top of your news feed, click the “Most Recent” in the Sort drop-down menu, rather than “Top Stories.” If you still notice that not all posts from some friends are showing, click on the drop down menu next to their name and make sure you have “All Updates” selected.
Facebook is a great, perhaps the best, social media marketing tool out there. But, unless you customize it, you may not be getting the most out of it. Take a closer look at your account and make sure it’s doing all it can.
